Easy to install
Fiat 500 key covers can be a great method to upgrade your keys. You can choose from a range of styles and colors to choose the one that best fits your personal style. Installing them yourself is in ten minutes. You'll only need a screwdriver, and some patience. The first step is taking off the cover that was originally installed. The original cover needs to be removed prior to the replacement is able to be installed.
After removing the cover After removing the cover, you can make use of a flathead tool to remove the four major attachment clips from the passenger side of the fob assembly. These are marked in red on the image below. Also, note the tabs for locating slots that are highlighted in yellow. They require disengagement as well.
After removing the battery replace it with a new 3 volt coin cell battery. Make sure that the "+" positive side of the battery is pointing to the opening of the fob and that the -" negative side is facing towards the rubber buttons.
Re-attach the passenger side mirror cover by aligning the tabs that locate it. Once you've done that, put the driver-side fob back into the vehicle and test it. Press the button at the front of the key. If everything works as it should the car should turn on the parking lights and your doors will lock automatically.

The battery is simple to replace by turning the switch a quarter turn with a small screwdriver with a flat head.
The key fob comes with a microchip in it that is used to communicate with the Body Control Module (BCM). When you insert your Fiat key, it presses a button in the ignition switch. This is used to remind you of the "key-inignition". The BCM will then be capable of reading the transponder inside the key fob to verify that it's genuine.
